Support learning truth in Virginia K-12 public education!
Committed to Transparency and Truth in Public Education!

On January 5th, Superintendent Balow presented the third iteration of the History and Social Science Standards of Learning (SOL) revisions. This latest version combines the initial draft from the Department of Education (DOE) in August with the controversial Youngkin SOLs from November. The new standards will be reviewed by the Virginia Board of Education (VBOE) on February 2nd. Despite three rounds of revisions, the SOLs remain unacceptable due to persistent concerns in three key areas.
Despite repeated revisions, the SOLs still contain serious errors, overlook important communities, and lack a developmentally-appropriate skill progression.
The January SOLs remain heavily politically-biased and divert time and resources from effectively educating and supporting students.

Join The Movement

Virginia is home to many communities with differing backgrounds and histories. Black, Latino and Asian Americans, women, immigrants, and working-class groups have been critical to the story of Virginia. It is important that these narratives are included in our state’s K-12 education because people develop personal and community values through understanding historical events and impacts in context, and exploring perspectives through reading, writing, and sharing ideas during these years.
